Why Hide the Body?

There are easier names for a publishing house.

Safer ones, certainly.

But I was never interested in making the stories safer.

Hide the Body Press began with a simple proposition: what might a writer put on the page if nobody outside it could hold the words against her?

A name can be an introduction.

It can also be a witness.

It follows the writer into the room carrying history, expectation, reputation, responsibility, and all the little rules about who she is supposed to be.

So I wondered what would happen if I left mine outside.

Or buried it.

The answer was N.E. Body.

The body isn't hidden because I'm ashamed of the work.

The body is hidden so the work has nothing left to fear.
